DC's second annual Safety Tech Appreciation Day is March 22, 2024. Their job is to help student pedestrians and bicyclists reach their school safely. Safety Tech Appreciation Day (STAD) is now a city-wide day of recognition for the 200+ Safety Techs, also known as School Crossing Guards, who take their posts every morning and every afternoon during the school year. DDOT's School Crossing Guards protect the safety of students who walk, bike, or take transit to school. School crossing guards help students safely cross hazardous intersections en route to the school building and work in conjunction with school monitors, school security, parking enforcement officers, roadway traffic operations patrols, and police officers.
